What the old Pinnacle API cost

The public Pinnacle API had no fee. Access came with a funded Pinnacle account, authenticated with your account credentials over HTTP Basic auth, and was subject to fair-use rate limits and a two-IP restriction. The real cost was the account itself and the operational constraints, not a subscription.

That model ended on 23 July 2025, when Pinnacle closed public access and moved to a bespoke programme for selected bettors, commercial partners and academic projects. Whatever those arrangements cost is not published. The shutdown page has the full timeline. For everyone outside that programme, Pinnacle prices now come from third-party feeds, and those are paid products after a trial period.

Trial vs 3-day demo

pinnodds has two free entry points: an open-ended Trial with a low rate limit and no SSE, and a 3-day full demo that runs at Pro speed with SSE enabled. Both are issued without a card and without a Pinnacle account.

The open-ended Trial is limited to 20 requests a minute, 100 an hour and 100 a day, and does not include push. That is enough to learn the API, look at real responses and build a parser, but not enough to run anything continuously. The 3-day demo removes the throttle, running at 10 requests a second with SSE, so you can prototype an alert bot or a polling loop end to end and see how the plan you are considering actually behaves. Stream, Pro, Pro + SSE and Scale

The four paid tiers differ along two axes only: how fast you may poll REST endpoints, and whether you get the SSE push stream. Data depth, including quarter lines and special markets, is identical on every plan.

Notice that Stream and Pro cost the same per month. They are alternatives, not a ladder: one buys push with a small REST budget, the other buys a large REST budget with no push. The polling versus push guide helps you decide which side of that trade you are on.

Quarterly and semi-annual terms

Longer terms are discounted against the monthly price: roughly 13 to 16 percent for quarterly plans and about 24 percent for the semi-annual Pro and Pro + SSE plans. The term toggle above the cards shows the discount, and once switched each card shows the approximate per-month equivalent with the amount actually billed.

Whether to prepay is a normal cash-flow decision. If you have run the 3-day demo and know a plan fits, a quarter is a sensible first commitment. If you are still tuning the polling interval or unsure whether you need push, stay monthly for a cycle and switch after.

The WebSocket add-on

The raw WebSocket feed, which relays every upstream price frame, is an add-on at $99 a month on eligible plans rather than part of the base tiers. It is for people who want to build their own change detection on the full stream instead of using the SSE drop alerts.

Which plan for which workload

Match the plan to how your code consumes data: a periodic poller wants Pro, an alert bot wants Stream or Pro + SSE, and a multi-sport arbitrage scanner wants Scale. Start on the free demo to measure your real request rate before choosing.

A practical check: count how many requests per minute your code actually makes during the 3-day demo, then pick the smallest plan whose limit is comfortably above that. Hitting the limit returns a rate-limit error with a retry-after value, which the official SDKs surface as a typed exception, but a plan that is too small will make your bot late rather than wrong.
